About Me

Hi, I'm Theresa!

I started Loudoun County Limbo because I couldn't find anyone else posting deals for Loudoun County, Virginia on the internet. I got tired of reading deals on national blogs, only to find that the information was regional and not useful in our area.

After 20 years of working for the U.S. government and travelling the world, my husband and I settled in Loudoun County with our three teens and two dogs. We were shocked at the cost of living here, and I began couponing as a way to make ends meet on one income.

I hope you find lots of useful information at my site that helps you to save money too. Please feel free to contact me or leave a comment on my blog!

  2. Not sure how it works. do I need to clip coupons from the paper? At present we only get the New York Times and Leesburg Today and the Gazette. I saw your post on this week where you had numbers after the food item. What did this mean? We also need to save money. Am grateful for your blog if it will truly help me as well as save time. Coupon clipping of papers I don't get doesn't seem time wise. Thanks for sharing. :)

    1. The numbers after items in my Weekly Roundup posts indicate how many I purchased of that item that week. The deals I post may involve printing coupons from the internet (in which case I provide a link) or clipping from the paper. My coupon match ups are based on the Washington Post inserts. I imagine the NY Times inserts would be the same.

I just write the date on my inserts when they arrive instead of clipping all the coupons, then I can easily pull out the ones I need when I find a deal. I also get inserts from relatives who don't use them and from the recycling center. Some people buy them from clipping servies or eBay.

There is a learning curve in the beginning, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. I haven't paid anything but tax for toiletries since I started.

  5. Hi Lynn -
Look at the most recent email that you got from Harris Teeter. Scroll down near the bottom where it says "Your Weekly Specials" on a green bar. Then click on the red buttom that says eVic coupons. That will take you directly to the page with the ZVR ecoupns on it, and you can select the ones you want by clicking "Save It". You can save a maximum of 99 to your card at one time. They will come off your bill automatically when you shop. You can use each one only once, but sometimes after you have used them they reload. I hope that answers your question!

  6. This is my first time at your site. Really looks interesting. Please tell me where the recycling center is in Loudoun County and a little about it. I live in Ashburn. Thanks so much.

  8. I just have to say what a change you've made in our house! We've had my sister and her daughter living with us for almost a year now and our grocery bill started creeping up every month. A friend of mine from my son's class told me about your blog and how it can help save money! I am now hooked and as my husband loves when I come home and says how much did you save today? He has also starting looking through my coupons before he goes shopping.

Your blog has not only saved me money but in turn my family is now enjoying doing fun things with the money we save!

Thank you so much for your time to help others,

  9. Hi Daphne - Thank you so much for taking the time to post. It is comments like yours that keep me going. Many blogs post deals that will make money for the owner, not save money for the shopper. I try to post only the deals that I myself do or would do if I had the time or coupons! I am so glad that it has helped you!!

  10. Hi Theresa,
I love your match ups with the local grocery stores, saves us working moms so much time. Now I do have a question for you about your groceries. You know how every one is is all about organic everything. How much organic products do you get for your grocery?
    Thanks

  11. I only buy whatever the cheapest deals are and stockpile those things. I don't focus on whether things are organic or not, because there is no evidence that organically grown foods are better for you or the environment or that they even taste better. However, I have felt that our family's diet was lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables this year, so I decided to join a CSA - a community supported agricultural farm. I plan to do a blog post about that in the near future to tell you more.

  14. Theresa, I follow your posts on RC also.. thank you for sending me your link to your blog this week, with a coupon I requested. Your posts are so helpful to me. I have coupon/refunded for 35+ years and yes I am showing my age! I can't believe that much time has passed. How long have you been in this great hobby of ours? Times sure have changed though through the years, no internet when I started, but had wonderful premium rebates through ciggarette companies, were you in it when the Camel/Salem deal was out, I was lucky to get TV's, VCR's and a pool table back then. Well thanks again I do appreciate your time when you post.

  15. Hi Lisa -
Thank you for your kind comments! I have always been interested in couponing and refunding (my mom used coupons when I was growing up) but I have only been doing it seriously for the past 3 years. I spent most of my adult life living abroad, so I wasn't really able to coupon until we moved to Virginia in 2009.

  20. THANK YOU for showing me the basics! I am brand new to couponing but between reading your blog plus using Ibotta, SavingStar, and Checkout 51, I saved LOTS of money at Harris Teeter last week and again today. My VIC savings today alone =$68 and in addition I used some clipped and some printed coupons (total savings of $80+ today). Keep up the good work!
