A $3.98 Harris Teeter Super Double Trip

This is my beautiful daughter, Charlie, with all the things I got at Harris Teeter during my 2nd Super Doubles trip.

Prior to shopping, I had downloaded the Gain detergent and the Gain fabric softener e-Vic coupons to my Vic card, and they BOTH came off my purchase. Also, my first $1.00 IP coupon for the Life Savers went through, but the second one beeped. The manager pushed it through, and since the Life Savers were on sale for $1.50, I ended up with overage!

Here you can see my receipt - coupons tendered: $63.62

I was especially happy to get milk, bread, and cheese for this price. The milk alone normally costs $3.99!

While shopping I noticed an interesting sign in the greeting cards section. It said: Buy 4 American Greeting cards (minimum $1.99) and get a free Flowering Hanging Basket. Four plant styles from which to choose. I don't know how long this deal is going on, but it sounds like a good one to me - $8.00 for a hanging plant (regularly about $15) and four nice quality cards. Mother's Day will be coming up soon!

This Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day. Many companies are offering freebies to encourage you to waste less and be more green in your shopping habits. Here are a few in Loudoun County:

Next I used the gift card to purchase all the following items for a total of $9.90:

Weekly Roundup #14 - April 3-9

This is the 14th week of my attempt to monitor my weekly spending and show how I feed our family on $50.00 per week or less. You may notice that when I find a good deal on something, I buy a lot of it. This doesn't make sense to someone who makes out a weekly menu, then buys the items on their shopping list, but it pays off for me. I never run out to buy something full price, and I rarely run out of things since I have a nice stockpile. This week I found:

All Giant stores sell reusable bags for 99 cents and insulated bags for $1.99. In addition, they will deduct five cents for every shopping bag a customer brings from home to use from your shopping bill!

Here is a photo of the bag I found on a rack in the freezer section of my store - I filled it up with $1.00 Mrs. Smith pies and 25 cent Fugdesicles!

Food Lion Shopping Today!

Yesterday I received coupons in a trade for $1.00 off 1 Kraft Homestyle Macaroni & Cheese in the mail, so I took off to shop at Food Lion. The mac & cheese was on sale 3/$5.00 or $1.66 each, with a Big Deal discount of $5.00 when you buy 10 in one transaction. When I got to the store, I found that the mac & cheese had "peelie" coupons to save $1.00 on a box of Stovetop stuffing when you buy a bag of Kraft Homestyle. The Stovetop was on sale for $1.50 a box. I impulsively decided to buy 10 boxes of that as well, then threw in a 3 lb. bag of onions on sale for $3.13 that I needed for dinner.
Here you see the groceries that I got for a total of $10.55, including tax. I paid for most of it with my prepaid debit card from the Kelloggs gas card deal, so my out of pocket expense was only $2.54!

Also in the photo, you can see the ticket I received for "spending" over $20.00 this week at Food Lion. You can read more about the ticket and how to use it for a $10.00 savings on your groceries here.
Today, April 10th, is the last day of the Big Deal.

Food Lion - The Big Deal!

The "Big Deal" is at Food Lion from March 28 - April 10, 2012.
Look for Big Deal Signs throughout the store and save instantly when you buy:

10 items in one transaction - $5.00 off your bill
20 items in one transactions - $10.00 off your bill
30 items in one transaction - $15.00 off your bill

Click here to see a list of all the items that qualify!

This is my plan for today:

Buy 2 boxes Sunshine Cheez-It crackers - on sale $3.99, Buy One Get One Free, and use 2 coupons for 70 cents off one box that you can print here. That will make my final price $1.30 each.
Buy 1 box of Kelloggs Crispix and use a peelie coupon that I found at Giant to get a free box of Crispix when you buy two boxes of Cheez-It crackers.

Buy 4 Hormel Compleats at $2.00 each and use 2 coupons to "buy1 get 1 free" that you can print from Facebook here, plus a coupon for $1.00 off two Hormel Compleats from the 2/12/12 Smart Source insert. That will make my cost for four $3.00.

Buy 4 Green Giant boxed vegetables that are on sale 10 for $10.00 and use 2 coupons for 50 cents off two that you can print  here. That will make my final price $3.00 for four.

My total will come to $8.59 after coupons minus the $5.00 instant savings = $3.59 for everything!

Weekly Roundup #12 - March 20-26

This week my shopping trips focused on the Harris Teeter "Triple Coupons" event and the continued Frozen Food Month promotion at Giant. While I may like the juice, I don't like the price of $3.69!

This month I averaged $38 per week! I received a prepaid gift card in the mail for Rite Aid from a previous refund that absorbed most of the tax on my purchases there in February. I used some of my coupons for free 12-packs of Coke at Rite Aid to take advantage of their promotion to earn $1.50 in UP rewards when you buy 3, so that was a money maker. I also stocked up on free milk at Harris Teeter Super Doubles and splurged on some fresh produce. I am now slowly building a stockpile of candy for upcoming Easter baskets!

I also got some great deals at Harris Teeter super doubles and stocked up on cheap Mexican foods (tortillas, chips, and refried beans) and cheap dog food at Giant.

Giant Shopping Trip - Feb 7, 2012

Today I decided to spend $50.00 at Giant in order to use the Bonus 300 Gas Points coupon that I posted about the other day. Only I didn't want to actually spend that much, so I put together a deal with some high value coupons that I had.

If you use the hand scanner to scan the price of items as you shop you can make sure that you get to the amount you want without going over too far. Here are my dogs Ziggy and Hugger with the items I purchased, which normally would have cost $50.26. (Ziggy is eating a dog treat that she got for posing).

Ziggy and Hugger with their dog food
I used $34.18 worth of coupons and got a discount of $4.36 from Giant because Hershey bars are on sale this week (Buy 2, Get 2 Free). So my total savings came to $38.54, which means my bill was only $11.82 plus $1.75 tax, or $13.57 out of pocket.

I could have spent less, but I really wanted that Chef Boyardee Ravioli!

If you have 2 of the coupons from the Smart Source insert of 1/8/12 to get a free Hershey's Air Delight Aerated Candy Bar free when you buy any Hershey Bar, you can get 4 chocolate bars for free at Giant this week. Two will be free from the store and 2 will be free with your coupon!

My Super Bloom Shopping Trips!

Here is a photo of my son, Jake, with the deals that he helped me to "hunt down" on Saturday morning:

On our visit to the Bloom in Purcellville, VA for Super Doubles we spent $5.33 on noodle soup cups, a pack of hot dogs, a box of elbow noodles, a bag of sugar, 3 homemade bread kits, and a Hormel party tray from the deli. I'll be getting an $8.00 rebate on the party tray.

Next we visited the Bloom in Leesburg that is closing where we picked up ten 5-lb bags of sugar, two frozen pie crusts, a canister of dried mustard, and two big tubs of ice cream. The sugar was only $1.50 per bag, so I stocked up. Our total there came to $24.62.

Finally, we visited the other Bloom in Leesburg for a few more noodle cups, 2 lbs of bananas, and a roll of paper towels. My total receipt there came to 35 cents!

As Jake was loading the noodle cups into the cart for me, I asked how many were left on the shelf. He replied that he wanted to leave some for other shoppers, since clearing the shelf would be like "camping" in a video game. When I asked what he meant by that, he replied that it meant hiding in a corner with a gun and waiting for someone to walk into the room to shoot them. It isn't illegal, but it is sort of unethical and takes the fun out of the game.

Bloom will be holding ANOTHER Super Doubles event this Saturday, February 4, 2012!

My Bloom Super Doubles Trip

Here the results from my trip to Bloom for Super Doubles yesterday:

  • 7 Fleishmann's Homemade Bread Kits
  •  8 Activia Yogurt 4-packs
  •  2 Marie Callender's Frozen meals
  • 2 Reynolds Slow Cooker liners
  • 1 V8 Juice 6-pack
  • 1 5-lb. bag of My Essentials Sugar

My total came to $2.74 including tax and the bag of sugar alone cost $3.19.

Definitely worth braving the icy roads yesterday!!

It has been confirmed that there will be another Super Doubles at Bloom this Saturday, January 28th. If you couldn't make it this week because of the weather or the shelves were bare of things you wanted to buy, many of the same items will be free again this weekend.
