Giant Home Mailer Coupons - Start Smart & Save Smart!

Last week I got the new home mailer coupon booklet from Giant entitled Start Smart & Save Smart.

Inside were the following coupons:
$1.00 off 2 Special K Cereals
$1.00 off V8 Juice (48 oz Bottle, all varieties)
$1.50 off Folgers Fresh Breaks Instant Coffee (8 ct, 7 oz, all varieties)
$1.00 Giant Muffins (4-pack, all varieties)
FREE Stonyfield Organic Blends 6 oz Yogurt (all varieties)
$7.00 off your next purchase of $140 or more!

The Giant ad for the week of May 3-9, 2013 (home delivery) had a coupon to earn 300 additional gas points when you spend $50.00.

Since I never spend $50.00 in one shopping trip anywhere, much less $140.00,  I planned to combine these 2 coupons with this strategy:

Buy:
- 2 Shell Gas Gift Cards for $50.00 each - $100.00
- 6 Kellogg's Cereals - $15.00
- 6 Eggo's Frozen Products - $12.00
- 4 Bagel-fuls - $8.00
- 1 Oscar Mayer Carving Board Pulled Pork - $3.50
- 2 Duncan Hines Frosting Flavor Creations - $2.00
- 1 Stonyfield Organic Blend Yogurt - 99 cents
Sub-Total: $141.49 

Coupons:
- 6 coupons for 50 cents off Kellogg's Cereal
- 3 coupons for 75 cents off 2 Eggos
- 2coupons for 55 cents off Bagel-fuls
- Free Oscar Mayer Carving Board Pulled Pork up to $7.00 coupon
- Free Duncan Hines Frosting Flavor Creations coupons
- Free Stonyfield Organic Blends Yogurt store coupon

I expected to save a total of $42.19 with coupons as follows:
- $7.00 with the home mailer coupon when you spend $140.00
- $19.19 with manufacturer's coupons after doubling
- $16.00 for the Instant Savings Deal ($4.00 x 4)
That would have made my total $99.30.

Then, I was going to use the $50 Giant Gift Card that I got yesterday to pay, and only owe another $49.30 out of pocket.

If my plan had worked, I would have ended up with $100 in gas cards for a total of $99.30, plus $41.49 worth of FREE food and 300 Bonus Gas Points!

Unfortunately, the Instant Savings of $16.00 came off the top of my bill, bringing my subtotal to only $125.49, so my $7.00 coupon beeped and I was unable to use it.  Lesson learned.

In the end, I paid $106.78 for $100.00 worth of gas cards and $41.49 worth of food, plus got 300 gas points.  Still not a bad deal.
